Deportation of Criminals (stage 1)

(stage 1) I would like to email students and faculties to see if they have any knowledge of this subject and see if they would reply on their interest and what they think about the subject matter in general.  The email would be like following:

You may have heard about a law that supports deporting non-citizen criminals back to their homeland.  Having heard about this law, you may have thought to yourself either of the following statements:
1. It doesn't concern me.
2. They were lucky enough to have come here for a better opportunity and if they mess it up, they should go back to their homeland.
3. What?  When did this law become active and how is it fair that people came here legally and have established a permanent residency and are still subject to deportation?  Some of these people came here based on amnesty and not because they were looking for a better opportunity.  They were just looking for a place to live because there is no more place they can call home.

Even if this issue does not directly affect you, it is not right that they can ammend the law to make it convenient for the system.  This is injustice for many individuals who are affected.  If they can subject this type of injustice one group of individuals, what else could be next.

We are asking to everyone's support to at least come hear some stories behind this injustice.  Come hear us and you can make your own decision about what is right!  More details to come soon.

  1. This is a great idea. You might want to make sure you get some representative balance before you meet. I'de also suggest adding som specific and precise information abou the law you are discussing--details create interest. Really what youar discussing is the Aggravated Felony provision in the INA statutes. When congressfolks want to socore points with their consittuents on beind tough on crime and immigration, they propose adding another crime tot he list of things that can be called an aggravated felony. What I'm not sure about is if the aggrvted felony procivisin only attaches ot immigrants legally in the country, I would assume undocumented workers here illegally would already be deported. In any case, a sign of who we are as a society or culture is hwo we deal with people not part of our legal system.
